The objective of the network is to establish a permanent platform for a Nordic cooperation on game research. This platform is meant to constitute the basis for Nordic founded partnerships in relation to EU’s FP7 and thereby, be the fundament for a closely integrated European network for game research and actual focused research projects across national borders.
Another objective for the funding period is to establish the basis for Nordic anchored research education programs and actual researcher education seminars. On a national basis, the volume at stake in the researcher education field is still limited, however, the subject area is rapidly evolving and expanding. In total, the Nordic countries are counting a significant part of the researcher production in an international perspective, a production of high quality. Some of the leading researchers within computer games are to be found within Nordic universities and given the network's ability to gather and activate these resources in terms of ph.d.-seminars, it will be of great value to Nordic based ph.d.-candidates. Thus, a coordinated Nordic researcher education program will stand out as an international flagship.
A third objective for Nordic Game Research Network will be to appear as the research-based network in relation to the education-related network ‘Nordic Game Education Network’ and the development-oriented ‘Nordic Game Program’. Nordic Game Research Network’s target areas will, thus, be the theoretical and analytical perspectives founded in the philosophical, aesthetic, sociological, cognitive and technical research areas. Hence, Nordic Game Research Network will be able to maintain and develop education offers to Nordic Game Education Network and be an active opponent and teammate to Nordic Game Program.
